The Youth Study Center project was part of the broader Hurricane Katrina Disaster Recovery initiative, which was funded through a federal disaster declaration. Compliance with federal regulations and GLO/FEMA guidelines was strictly adhered to, underlining the importance of emergency coordination and response services in the successful rebuilding of the hurricane-impacted city.
Kenall played a key role in the recovery efforts after the hurricane by providing geotechnical services and construction recommendations for a new youth center, including both the building and pavement. Their team conducted CPT drilling, core drilling, soil sampling, and gathered lithologic data. They also performed laboratory testing to evaluate soil and groundwater conditions, ultimately providing design and construction recommendations based on their findings.
